Xmen first class amazon instant7/3/2023 ![]() ![]() There is more to offer and more depth to appreciate. In the end, they succeeded in re-establishing these characters in a superb and interesting manner. Fast paced yet filled with depth, spellbinding visual effects and a gripping finale. ![]() The overall impact of this film leaves you with a great sensation of a job well done. I have to add that the score had a perfect heroic theme but was also moving and very well done. Vaughn did a brilliant job and Singer's vision from the first two films stayed in tact and was enhanced. The collaboration between Singer and Vaughn apparently was a perfect blend. The retro design is suave and making this a period piece gives it a cool and unique flavor. It delivers great action, humor, effects and a strong connection between heroes, villains and those developing in between. First Class never undermines the audience nor talks down to them and does all that is expected of it. Xavier is a shining example and his journey throughout the film matches that of Erik. During the second half, plot threads move towards resolution and action picks up. The viewer can simply sit and watch it unfold but also be emotionally invested in the journey. Both sides of the fence (Xavier's vision and Magneto's contempt) are advanced and the brilliance of the plot is that both sides are understandable and relatable. This new spin on familiar "bad guys" Magneto and Mystique does give the actions and emotions for the characters a new level of appreciation and helps give them so much more depth and pathos. Establishing these characters and the entire universe is done remarkably well and in a remarkably moving manner. The events depicted shouldn’t be taken as pure fact but we do know what happened in hindsight and these events play cleverly with the subject matter. There are plenty of big action scenes throughout but it's the first half of the film that really impresses. villains so why not add some historical context in the mix? The movie takes place in 1962 and shows some of the events that lead up to the Cuban Missile Crisis. X-Men comic books always told the story of heroes vs. While we both know that there is no way the X-Men were actually there in the sixties, the movie can be a lot of fun without taking itself too seriously. The twist in this mutant comic book movie is that the X-Men actually played a part in events that took place in the Cold War during the sixties. The Bay of Pigs, the brink of nuclear war, and high tensions being the world’s foremost superpowers are played up in First Class. The movie plays off of the audience as most have lived through or learned about the Cold War in school. X-Men: First Class takes a different approach to movies with a historical backdrop. The historical references that The Imitation Game came up short in were enough to peak the interest of curious movie-goers, though, and that can be summed up as a triumph for any movie dealing with real history. The summary of Turing’s achievement in The Imitation game also got mixed with things that audiences generally enjoy seeing on screen relationships that could have been, a love story that didn’t turn out the way it should of, and a fast-moving plot. I enjoyed The Imitation game but a summary of Alan Turing’s trials and tribulations with the German Enigma machine got summarized in a two-hour movie. I’ll explain with another recent example, The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Alan Turing during World War II. With X-Men First Class, the filmmakers give just enough context to the Cold war to grab audience attention and educate them enough while also entertaining them. Throwing real history in the mix when making a big budget movie can be tricky and is, unfortunately, often done wrong. Grabbing audiences and holding their attention can be a struggle for big studios. Alan Turing (Left), Benedict Cumberbatch (Right) ![]()
